The 3rd Annual HoopsQueens Winter Ball 2012 has grown to include teams from outside of New York. We welcome DePaul Catholic and Immaculate Conception from New Jersey, and La Salle Academy from Rhode Island. This year’s field includes teams that have had great recent success.

Chong went off on Archbishop Molloy for 54 points in Ossining’s 92-75 win Sunday at the Francis Lewis Winter Ball girls basketball event in Fresh Meadows. She had eight 3-pointers, eight assists and six rebounds, completely dominating in every phase of the game.

The 5-foot-9 versatile wing had 23 points and helped shut down star Krystal Pearson defensively in Long Island Lutheran’s 62-41 win over Truman at the Francis Lewis Winter Ball girls basketball event in Fresh Meadows.
FDU-bound senior Brianna Thomas scored 18 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and collected seven steals for St. John the Baptist and the Cougars took control of the game with a huge third quarter after Lewis took a 32-25 lead into the half.

The young Francis Lewis girls’ basketball team played like veterans when it mattered. The Patriots’ starting lineup doesn’t have a single upper classmen in it, but they beat Bronx’s John F. Kennedy like a senior squad.
Gone were a group of seniors who had a ton of experience as Jasmine Davis, Jazmine Hamlet and Tyese Purvis all graduated from a squad that lost to eventual champion Murry Bergtraum in the semifinals of the PSAL Class AA playoffs last March. What they lack in experience, the Patriots make up for in work ethic and desire to succeed.
