To say Francis Lewis limped to the finish line last year would be an understatement. The Patriots played their worst basketball of the season near the end and it resulted in an upset loss to Manhattan Center in the PSAL Class AA quarterfinals. This current group is making sure the same thing doesn’t happen.

The young Francis Lewis girls’ basketball team played like veterans when it mattered. The Patriots’ starting lineup doesn’t have a single upper classmen in it, but they beat Bronx’s John F. Kennedy like a senior squad.
Gone were a group of seniors who had a ton of experience as Jasmine Davis, Jazmine Hamlet and Tyese Purvis all graduated from a squad that lost to eventual champion Murry Bergtraum in the semifinals of the PSAL Class AA playoffs last March. What they lack in experience, the Patriots make up for in work ethic and desire to succeed.
